Jinja
town last Saturday was permeated with jollity as 'son of the soil' Maro
brought his Kamboine concert home. As early as 6pm, all roads to
TransAfrica were jammed with boda bodas and taxis ferrying fans.
Everywhere, people seemed to be discussing Maro who has become a
household name in Busoga where his songs dominate the airwaves.
When Uganda first
stumbled upon Maro's music five years ago, the region had bigger
ambassadors that included Mega Dee. Today, Maro is the catch phrase.
Born Ronald Magada
aka "the RnB Kyabazinga", Maro has been on the Ugandan music scene since
2010 but it is his collaboration last year with David Lutalo, Mubbi
Bubbi that catapulted him into the big-name league.
And what better way
to announce one's arrival into the big-name league than to use Fenon
Events for stage and sound! And it was great sound, which left Jinja
dancing till late.
The upcountry shows
allow artistes more time and King Saha, Victor Kameyo, Aziz Azion,
Michael Ross and others performed. Maro, stepped on stage after 1am
backed by Bebe Cool's Gagamel band, just as fans were growing anxious.
He performed for 45
minutes before taking a break, doing Maze Okukwetegereza, Oli Wala,
Kyabazinga, Engeri, Bulamu Bwange and Mubbi Bubbi, as Buvawala, the
Busoga kingdom prime minister, bobbed his head in enjoyment.
"This has been my
third concert but what my fans have shown me today is great; I am not
going to relax but work harder," Maro said.
With the state
minister for works, Asuman Kiyingi, as chief guest, the show ended at
2am with a sale of CDs and Maro performing the night's hit Kamboine.
